Kerala State Eligibility Test (SET) on Sept 25, 2011
The State Eligibility Test (SET), Kerala for 2011 will be held on 25.09.2011 at all district headquarters in Kerala. A pass in the State Eligibility Test (SET) is stipulated as a mandatory requirement for appointment as Higher Secondary School Teachers in the State. There shall be two papers for SET 2011, each of 120 minutes duration. Paper I is common for all candidates and will consist of two parts. Part A is General Knowledge and Part B is Aptitude in Teaching.
Paper II will be a test based on the subject of specialization of the candidate at the Post Graduate (PG) Level. There will be 35 subjects offered for Paper II which are Anthropology (Code 01), Arabic (02), Botany (03), Chemistry (04), Commerce (05), Economics (06), English (07), French (08), Gandhian Studies (09), Geography (10), Geology (11), German (12), Hindi (13), History (14), Home Science (15), Islamic History (16), Journalism (17), Kannada (18), Latin (19), Malayalam (20), Mathematics (21), Music (22), Philosophy (23), Physics (24), Political Science (25), Psychology (26), Russian (27), Sanskrit (28), Social Work (29), Sociology (30), Statistics (31), Syriac (32), Tamil (33), Urdu (34) and Zoology (35).
There will be 120 questions for Paper I with 60 questions each for Part A and Part B. Each question will carry 1 mark. Paper II will have 120 questions carrying one mark each for the subjects under Paper II except for Mathematics and Statistics. For Mathematics/Statistics there will be only 80 questions carrying 1.5 marks each.
Questions of both the papers will be objective in nature and based on single response. For each question four suggested responses (A, B, C, D) will be given of which only one will be the most appropriate answer. The candidate has to select and mark the response in the appropriate space provided in the OMR Answer Sheets. For each correct response, 1 mark will be awarded in both Papers except for Mathematics and Statistics for which each correct response will be awarded 1.5 marks. For every incorrect answer ¼ th of the mark assigned to the correct answer to that question will be deducted.
A candidate has to score (i) at least 35 percent of marks for Paper I and Paper II separately and (ii) at least 50 percent of the aggregate marks of Paper I and Paper II, to pass the State Eligibility Test. Details are given in the Prospectus.

Eligibility:
Applicant should have acquired Masters Degree in the concerned subject in II Class with not less than 50% marks and B.Ed. Degree in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or should have acquired these qualifications from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto to apply for the SET 2011 with certain exceptions as specified.
For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT will be eligible to apply. For Botany and Zoology, those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in Life Science (with not less than 50% marks) from one of the Regional Institutes of Education are also eligible.
For Anthropology, Commerce, French, Gandhian Studies, Geology, German, Home Science, Journalism, Latin, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Russian, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics and Syriac, candidates need not acquire B.Ed. Degree for applying for the State Eligibility Test.
Those who have acquired II class Masters Degree in Communicative English with not less than 50% marks and BEd. are eligible to appear for SET in English.
Those who have acquired Diploma in Hindi Teaching, but do not have B.Ed. Degree, are eligible to apply for SET in accordance with the exemption clause provided in the Special Rules.
Those who have acquired B.Ed Degree in Hindi conducted by the Dakshin Bharatha Hindi Prachar Sabha are exempted from the requirement of producing the equivalency certificate, as the Degree has been recognized by the Universities in Kerala.
Those who have acquired their qualification through Correspondence Course/ Open Universities which are not recognized by any one of the Universities in Kerala are not eligible to appear for the SET.
Those who have acquired their qualifications through recognized correspondence courses/Open universities should obtain and furnish certificates of recognition and equivalency from any one of the Universities in Kerala.
Those admitted in the year 2010 for B.Ed. courses will be permitted to appear for the State Eligibility Test 2011. Those appearing for Post Graduate final year / Final semester Examinations in the academic year 2010-11 will also be permitted to appear for SET 2011 if they already have a B.Ed Degree. SET certificates of such candidates will be issued only if they qualify the PG/B.Ed examinations in that chance itself. B.Ed candidates should produce the pass certificates and PG candidates shall produce both the pass certificates and mark lists for proving their eligibility after qualifying the SET-2011. Candidates appearing simultaneously for PG and B.Ed. final examinations are not eligible to appear for SET-2011 under this provision.
For Latin, those who have passed their Degree examination in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with Latin as their Second Language under Part II with not less than 50% marks for that Part II are also eligible to appear for SET, provided such candidates have acquired II Class Masters Degree with not less than 50% marks in any discipline.
Applicants belonging to SC/ST categories shall be granted a relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum marks prescribed for the eligibility to appear for the State Eligibility Test. However the minimum requirement of a pass in second class for the qualifying examination shall not be applicable. There is no age limit is prescribed for candidates appearing for the SET.
Registration:Application form and Prospectus can be obtained from notified Post Offices as per the list at http://www.lbskerala.com/menu/set/set2011/index1.htm from 18th July, 2011 to 17th August 2011, be paying the prescribed fee of Rs.500/- for General candidates and Rs.250/- for SC/ST candidates.
SC/ST candidates should produce a copy of the Community Certificate to get the Prospectus and Application form for Rs.250/-.
Those residing outside Kerala can request for the Application form and Prospectus by post from ‘The Director, LBS Centre for Science & Technology, Nanadavanam, Thiruvananthapuram-695033, by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.550/- for General category candidates and Rs.300/- for SC/ST candidates, drawn from any one of the Nationalized banks in India in favour of the Director, LBS Centre for Science & Technology payable at Thiruvananthapuram and a self addressed envelope of size 31 cm X 25 cm, to reach the office of the Director, LBS Centre at least 10 days before the closing date fixed for registration for SET-2011.
Each application form will have an application number printed on it and a Security Key embedded at the bottom of the detachable portion of the application form. The candidate can scratch this portion to get the Security Key. Candidates are requested to maintain the confidentiality of their Security Key and the Application number.
There are two steps for submitting the application, both of which are mandatory.
STEP 1:
ONLINE REGISTRATION: Online Registration can be done between 18th July, 2011 and 5 pm on 17th July, 2011. For this, the candidate should log on to www.lbscentre.org or www.lbskerala.com and click SET-2011. Then the candidate should click on ‘Download Application Form’ link. The candidate will be prompted to type the application number and the security key there. The candidate should then fill in the Application form and click ‘SUBMIT’. On successful completion of the online registration, a REGISTRATION ID will be provided to the candidate by the Computer. An acknowledgement slip with the Registration ID will be displayed and the candidate should take a print out of the same and retain it for future reference.
STEP 2:
MODE OF SENDING THE APPLICATION FORMS: After completion of step 1, Application form obtained along with the Prospectus should be filled in. A recent passport size photograph of the candidate (no attestation required) has to be affixed. The form completed should reach ‘The Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Extra Police Road, Nandavanam, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram-695033’ by Registered post or by hand delivery latest by 17.08.2011.
Copies of certificates / mark lists should not be sent along with the application. These documents are required only after the results are announced. SC/ST Candidates shall enclose community certificate with their applications. The photograph affixed on the application should be sharp and clear as it is used for printing on the SET-2011 certificate.
The admit card for the SET shall be prepared for all the eligible candidates and will be available in the website of LBS Centre www.lbscentre.org or www.lbskerala.com from the date which will be announced later in leading dailies and in the official website of the LBS Centre.
